On Monday afternoon, February 25, 2013, Rosenwald “Dean” Allen, Sr. transitioned into peace. He was a lifelong resident of Northwest Indiana. Dean was a graduate of Roosevelt High School in Gary, IN and Worsham College of Mortuary Science.
He was a member of St. Luke A.M.E. Church, East Chicago, IN for many years . He was also a member of NAACP in East Chicago, IN and Paradise Lakes Association.
Dean retired from LTV Steel Corp with over 30 years of service. He was one of the first African American general foreman at LTV Steel. He was a Bailiff for the East Chicago City Court. He was also a restorative artist. He and his twin brother (Roosevelt) were masters at their craft! He started with his parents at Guy and Allen Funeral Home in Gary, IN and briefly worked for Hawkins Funeral Home in East Chicago and then became co-owner of Allen’s Funeral Home in East Chicago, IN.
Rosenwald loved to play cards. If there was a game anywhere in the area, he would be there! And what a skillful player he was. Bid whist was his game!
He was very social and a rare combination of a man’s man and ladies’ man. He had undying loyalty to his children. He gave tough, fair and affectionate love to them all.
